Method of Loci

The law of place is said to have been discovered by Simonides around 556 BC.

Simonides attended the banquet held in the palace and sang victory songs. He then left the palace, but then the ceiling of the palace collapsed and the people in the palace died.

The corpse was crushed by the ceiling and no one knew who it was.

But Simonides remembered who was where. Simonides was able to identify the bodies of those who died.

It was discovered that the human memory can store information that is tied to a place very strongly.
